Redemption for Brady!
The Weather
Saturday night was cold. Like down into the 40’s cold and Sunday started with sea smoke rolling off the water at Big Eddy. A beautiful sight in the morning light.
Sunday it was bright, sunny and warm, with temperatures reaching the low 80’s.
Water Temperature
Saturday night the water was at 64 degrees. Trout and Salmon are still fighting hard, and swimming away pretty quickly. Please be aware as temperatures reach closer to 70, fish require more time to recover. Please try not to over stress the fish.
The Fishing
The fishing was a mixed bag. There were moments where it was fun in the morning. There were also long stretches where the bright sun pushed fish to the bottom. In the afternoon, spots felt as if they wore out quickly. We would pull into a new place and get a couple of hits right away, then the hole would go quiet.
Hero Flies
Almost every fish was on one of these flies:
Nymphs:
Copper John – Red and Green
Streamer:
Labrador Retriever – Yes, we fished that jig head like a streamer. If you have an issue with that it caught fish.
Caddis Flies and Large Black Stonefly nymphs may still be in fashion, but we couldn’t find a fish interested on Sunday.
Redemption
We all have those days. Days where it feels like all the fish have left for vacation leaving the river bottom vacant. Two years ago Brady worked diligently, fishing an entire day without so much as a hit. It was a practice in patience. This season, Brady pulled this monster trout out of the West Branch. Total fight time was nearly 20 minutes. Brady earned this fish, no doubt about it.
